Today Devin had his 2 year check-up with Dr. Williams. He weighed in at 34 lbs and was 35 1/2 inches tall. So, if the old saying is true (that if you double your height at 2 years that will be your height as an adult) Devin should be about 5'11". That will have him towering over his dad-and mom- by 4 inches! :)
Developmentally he is right where he should be and ahead on a few things. He is doing a few things that 3 year olds should be doing. He is a little ahead on his counting-he counts to 15 now. He also knows all the letters of the alphabet and can tell you the sounds that most of the letters make. (Due to the magnetic Leap Frog letters on the fridge.)
He is still learning more colors and shapes. He knows square, oval, circle, diamond, triangle, star, crescent, red, blue, black, white, yellow, orange, purple, and green.
It's hard to believe that our little baby is no longer a baby, he's now a growing little boy. Sometimes I just look at him and wonder where the time went. I guess the old cliche is true about time flying by once you have children....I really hoped it wasn't. I'm sure one day I'll wake up and have a couple of teenage boys that think that their father and I are the biggest idots on the planet so I guess I should enjoy the affection that I get from him and how he always asks us for the answers to his questions.
We're still having a few battles with tantrums and I think I've figured out how to handle them better. We're doing time-outs.....and they seem to FINALLY be having an effect on him. He used to run into the kitchen and get his little stool that he has to sit on whenever I would tell him he was having a time-out like it was a reward, not punishment. But finally he's starting to realize that he's missing out on getting to do the things that he would like to be doing.
Next week I think will mark the start of potty training. I'm off to the store tomorrow to let him pick out his own "big boy" underwear. I'm sure that I'm in for several messes so we'll see how it goes. If he doesn't respond in a positive way we may back off for a few more months and see if he's ready then.
That is pretty much it for now on Devin. We're so proud of how he's come along and can't wait for even more milestones to be reached!
